Frictional electricity occurs, for example, when walking over a carpeted floor, whereby a person can be charged to approx. 30,000 volts. The electrical discharges can cause considerable damage to microelectronic components or, in fire-prone areas, possibly start a fire. Electrostatic discharges are prevented by the conductive connection of all metal parts, the incorporation of metallic conductors such as graphite particles, and electrostatically dissipative materials. Due to the additives, these materials have only a slightly increased electrical conductivity, which safely dissipates any electrical charges that arise and at the same time prevents high-current discharges.
