How do laminators work?

During lamination, documents are covered with a special film to protect them from stains, moisture or heat. Inside a laminator are several rollers over which the paper is pulled through the machine without bubbling or wrinkling. During hot lamination, the rolls heat up from the inside, causing the laminating films, which are coated with a special adhesive, to fuse together to form a protective cover. The films can now no longer be removed and are robust against various environmental influences.

What does cold lamination mean?

There is also the so-called cold lamination. In this case, the laminating foils are bonded together by the mechanical pressure of rollers instead of by heat in the laminator. Cold lamination is particularly suitable for heat-sensitive materials. With this method, however, the matching foils can be separated again at any time, so that no effective protection against liquids and other external influences is guaranteed.
